City of Sanford – Fire Hydrant Maintenance Notice

The City of Sanford is conducting fire hydrant maintenance, which includes static pressure testing, flow testing, system flushing etc. This work will take place from May through approximately August 2026, Monday through Thursday, between 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM. HYDROMAX is the contractor performing these services.

Residents may experience:

  • Reduced water pressure: Pressure may drop while hydrants are being flushed or tested. Service returns to normal once crews move out of the area.
  • Discolored or Rust-colored Water: Hydrant flushing can stir-up sediment and naturally occurring minerals (like iron) in the water lines causing the rust-colored water. This discoloration is temporary and does not pose a health risk.  If discolored water occurs, run cold water from an indoor faucet for several minutes until the water clears.
  • Cloudy Water: Air bubbles introduced during flushing can cause cloudiness that clears on its own.
  • Laundry Staining : Residents should avoid washing white or light‑colored clothing during active flushing periods to prevent staining.

These conditions are temporary and expected during hydrant maintenance. Water quality will return to normal shortly after flushing is completed in your area.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we complete this important maintenance to improve water quality and fire protection service.
